"The texts in this book were drawn directly from individual pieces in YOUTH IN ASIA, a body of work begun in 1982 and still in progress. The China Night installation is a culmination of the first section of this work. The texts are presented in 'China Night' itself as spoken narrations accompanied by various musics from the Vietnam era (60's rock n roll, Mexican, Vietnamese, etc.) on a continuous play audio cassette concealed in the piece. Roxy Gordon, Ron Gleason and myself read the spoken texts. The tape was recorded in my living room in Fresno, Ca., September 1985."
"Terry Allen is an independent artist working since 1966 in a wide variety of media including musical and theatrical performances, sculpture, painting, drawing and video, and installations which incorporate any and all of these media"
